The Man Behind the Moustache

There are a few new faces around the club this season and we thought it would be a good idea to do some introductions. This week we spent some time asking new Premier Hooker Stu Nutt how he is adjusting to life in Auckland since shifting over the Ditch from Aussie.

Tell us about Stu Nutt and who is the man behind the moustache?

I joined Grammar TEC early in the first round after moving over from Sydney where I played for South Sydney University. Originally I am from Orrorro which is a farming community in South Australia and approximately 300 kms from Adelaide. I am a 7th generation farmer and my family mainly farms cattle/sheep, I worked on the farm helping out until I moved to Sydney in 2014 to further my rugby career then decided to try something new and ended up at GTEC this year.

As well as playing rugby in Sydney I ran a small removal business. I have two brothers and one sister and I'm the baby of the bunch.

Who inspired you as a youngster?

I would have to say my dad, he is a great guy, works really hard and looks after me and my family.

Who is your favourite Grammar TEC player?

Easy, it has to be Luke Coughlan. He works hard around the park, carries well and is always consistent when playing. He also communicates very well. I just wish he would drink more beer!!

What are your future rugby goals?

Play rugby professionally and get a contract and see where the game can take me.

How are you finding life in New Zealand?

Great so far, New Zealand is an awesome place with friendly people. I have found everyone very welcoming and I want to travel around after the rugby season, Queenstown looks a great place to visit and will make sure I go there.

So there you have it GTEC followers, Stu Nutt is loving his time in NZ and at the club.

Come down on Saturday to watch the Premiers in action at 14:45pm at Orakei Domain. Stu will be there and we hope his moustache doesn’t get too wet.

Good luck to the Premiers and the Development sides.
