Our thoughts are with the family of All Black #732 Jon McLachlan, who passed away this week aged 75.
Jon was a Life Member of Grammar TEC and favourite son of the Eastern and College Rifles Rugby Clubs.
He was a Committee Man, Club Capt. Delegate and Liaison to Touring Test Teams over many years. Jon played all his club rugby for Eastern Suburbs from junior teams right up to and including Senior level, and to further his rugby aspirations of becoming an All Black played for College Rifles who were in Auckland 1st Division in the early 70s and gave him exposure to the NZ selectors.
Jon went on to become All Black 732 in 1974 and played 1 test and 8 games for the All Blacks in total, scoring 8 tries. Playing 54 games for Auckland and was a prolific try scorer and one of the best around the ankles tacklers to have played the game. In total Jon played 80 first class games for NZ, NZ Juniors, North & South Trials, NZ Barbarians and Auckland. A real character and joker, Jon will be missed by all who knew him.
As a club we are honoured to have Jon's All Black jersey & Blazer framed and on display at our club.
Our Sincere condolences go out to Linda his loving wife Jamie and Todd his 2 sons and family at this sad time. RIP Jon
Grammar TEC Rugby Football Club.
We thank the club's President Jock McNeil for the above.
